The Ads

In the past few years, a series of television ads have been produced and distributed by the government as part of their "war on drugs." The ads are funded by the U.S Office of National Drug Control Policy, which in turn sponsors the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. In 2002, it was estimated that the government paid more than $1.6 million to air two commercials during the Super Bowl, making it the biggest single government advertising purchase in U.S. history. All of these ads are available for viewing online. MS Terror is a direct reference to a specific ad called "I Helped" which can be viewed in the archive.

The Worm

On January 25, 2003, a computer "worm" known as "SQL Slammer" spread across large portions of the Internet by taking advantage of a vulnerability in a piece of software developed by Microsoft, and used by businesses and enterprises everywhere. This article on CNN is one of many articles written about the event.
